New York, January 8 (RHC)-- Wayne LaPierre, the longtime head of the National Rifle Association, has announced he is resigning ahead of opening arguments in a major corruption trial.

New York Attorney General Letitia James sued LaPierre and other top NRA executives for using the group as a “personal piggy bank.”  The trial could result in the NRA being dissolved.

LaPierre has led the NRA since 1991.
