It was reported that the far-right opposition members held responsible by the Venezuelan Public Prosecutor's Office for the crimes of treason and conspiracy left the Argentine embassy in Caracas and left the country, after receiving safe-conduct permits following negotiations with the government.
Caracas, May 7 (RHC)-- The Venezuelan government granted safe-conduct permits to several opposition members who were taking refuge in the Argentine Embassy in Caracas, following high-level negotiations, according to information provided by local media.
"The release of the asylum seekers from the Argentine Embassy in Caracas is good news," Venezuelan journalist Vladimir Villegas stated on the social media platform X. He also emphasized that "there was undoubtedly a negotiation" and added in the message that "negotiating is not betraying."
According to local media, the far-right activists who left the Embassy are collaborators of opposition leader María Corina Machado. Their names are Magalli Meda, Claudia Macero, Pedro Urruchurtu, Humberto Villalobos, and Omar González. The Public Prosecutor's Office has charged them with treason and conspiracy.
It has also been revealed that, immediately after receiving the safe-conduct passes negotiated with the government, the collaborators of the Venezuelan far right left the country.
On the same social network, Villegas said: “I'm told that the Brazilian Embassy in Caracas was not directly involved in the departure of the asylum seekers from the Argentinian Embassy, although it is not ruled out that Itamaraty may have had some involvement.”
