Santo Domingo, January 19 (RHC)-- The 5th Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) will take place on the 24th and 25th of January in Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic.  Referring to the upcoming regional meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Abelardo Moreno said that Cuba would attend the Summit with the expectation that it will contribute to the strengthening of CELAC.

Cuba's deputy foreign minister said that President Raul Castro has emphasized the importance of unity within diversity.  Abelardo Moreno said that many issues will be addressed during the meeting, "but we believe there are several that are of particular importance for our country."  And Moreno said that Cuba also hopes that CELAC will continue to come out against Washington's economic, financial and commercial blockade against the island.
