Ghanian vice president on official visit to Cuba

Havana, July 18 (RHC)—Ghanian vice president, Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, is in Cuba on an official visit, according to the Cubaminrex website.

Mahamudu Bawumia will meet with Cuban Vice President Inés María Chapman, pay tribute to Cuba's National Hero, José Martí, at Revolution Square in the Cuban capital and will participate in the graduation of medical students from his country.

Next December Cuba and Ghana will celebrate 60 years of diplomatic ties and friendship, encouraging cooperation in areas such as agriculture, tourism, sports, education, science, technology and health.

Cuban medical collaboration with Ghana began in 1983. Nearly 20 Cuban health professionals are currently working in the African country on a compensated basis. Meanwhile, some 458 young Ghanaians have prepared themselves as future doctors in the Caribbean island.
