Suriname's president begins official visit to Cuba on Monday

Havana, December 2 (RHC)-- Suriname President Desiré Delano Bouterse arrives in Cuba on Monday to begin an official visit that will last until Wednesday.

The visit will mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations and will serve to strengthen cooperation.

Bouterse will hold talks with Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez and will visit places of interst, among other activities.

Havana and Paramaribo established diplomatic relations on May 31, 1979.   The primary sector of cooperation between two nations is health, with 72 Cuban professionals currently working in the South American country.

At present, 47 young Surinamese students are currently studying on the island, 26 of whom have benefited from the scholarship program granted by the Cuban government. At the same time, 109 professionals have graduated in Cuba.
