Havana, September 6 (RHC)-- Cuban President  Miguel Díaz-Canel called on Monday to disseminate and debate the draft Family Code, the only legal norm other than the Constitution submitted to a referendum.

During a meeting with jurists and experts members of the Commission in charge of drafting the text, the President advocated for a process of normative construction without secrecy, promoting better consultation of the sectors of society.

"We are in the 22nd version of this document, and we must make known the fundamental contents in our informative spaces," said the head of state.

For his part, the Minister of Justice, Oscar Silvera, pointed out that one of the main decisions adopted by the Commission is to make this version of the Code public so that the population may get to know it in the next few days.

Specialists of the Commission in charge of the drafting agreed to point out the transcendence of the new document because it recognizes all the typologies of families in Cuba, and therefore, considers their protection.

The Commission's head commented that this is the step before the presentation to the lawmakers and pointed out that when the Parliament approves the draft Code, it must also define when and for how long the popular consultation will last.

Silvera recently emphasized that there are different types of families in the nation, formed not only by blood ties but also by affective ties. The legislation must recognize all of them on equal terms and protect them.
