Banes, June 15 (RHC)-- Five houses and a cafeteria were destroyed around midnight Tuesday by a major blaze in the historic center of Banes, in the eastern province of Holguin.

The fire, which did not leave human losses, affected the buildings located on General Marrero Street, between Céspedes and Martí, in the area identified by the locals as the Banes boulevard.

The victims were immediately lodged at the Oasis Hotel, where they received food and general attention, including psychological treatment by specialists who were trying to help them face the difficult situation in which the devastation of their property had left them.

The Communist Party leader in the province,  Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, and the Governor of the Province, Julio César Estupiñán Rodríguez, immediately went to the place of the fire and, together with the local authorities, took an interest in the affected people and the actions carried out for their permanent care.

Given the sad event, the population of Banes has unleashed a spontaneous movement of solidarity aimed at moral support and donating goods to the affected people.

The 12th WTO Ministerial Conference has been underway since June 12 at the World Trade Organization headquarters in Geneva.

Ministers from around the world have had the opportunity to review the functioning of the multilateral trading system, formulate general statements and make arrangements for the future work of the WTO.
