Díaz-Canel mourns the death of prominent Cuban military officer

Havana, August 19 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed his regret on Friday over the death of Brigadier General José Alberto Yanez Díaz, head of the Political Directorate of the Ministry of Interior (Minint), at the age of 69.

On Twitter, the president said Yanez's valuable collaboration was vital in projects. One was the Memorial de la Denuncia, a contemporary museum that relies on new technologies to propose an interactive journey through the crucial moments of Cuba's history, starting in 1959.

In his message, Díaz-Canel expressed his condolences to the deceased's family, colleagues, and friends.

During his almost 50 years of service in the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and the Ministry of the Interior (Minint), Yanez held various positions of responsibility, including the second chief of the Political Directorate of the FAR and first, second chief of the Political Directorate of MININT

He also served as vice-chief of the Executive Secretariat of the communist Party Central Committee’s Defense and National Security Commission.
