Cuban Minister thanks UNICEF for its support of the national health system

Havana, Oct 20 (RHC) During a meeting with authorities of the United Nations Children's Fund, Cuban Minister of Public Health José Angel Portal Miranda, thanked their constant support to the National Health System.

 

On behalf of the Government and the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, Portal Miranda thanked the work carried out, which has been decisive to achieve the results that Cuba shows today in the sector.

 

UNICEF has never left us alone and has been present during the most difficult times, as they proved during the COVID-19 pandemic, said Portal Miranda.

 

He also referred to the agency's significant contribution to the immunization program, the human milk banks, and the training of specialists.

 

Dr. Ephrem T. Lemango, Associate Director of Immunization of the organization, highlighted the long-standing relationship with the Caribbean nation and the willingness to continue working together.

 

He acknowledged Cuba's performance in the fight against the pandemic, the assistance provided to other nations, and the advances in biotechnology.

 

Alejandra Trossero, the UNICEF representative in Cuba, ratified the commitment to continue collaborating, through the organization's structures, for the well-being of Cubans, mainly in areas such as maternal, child, and adolescent health, immunization, and nutrition.

 

The meeting was held in the context of the IV Cuba-Health the 2022 International Convention, under the slogan "Universal Health, as part of the 2030 Health Agenda, in a post-COVID-19 context", represents an important forum to discuss global and regional health and Cuba's experience.
