Cuba calls for substantive decisions on financing at COP27

Algiers, Nov 17 (Prensa Latina) On Thursday, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez called to make substantive decisions on financing for losses and damages at the 27th Conference of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP27).

Developed countries must show political will and not delay the establishment of a fund for losses and damages at this UN Conference on Climate Change, the head of Cuban diplomacy wrote on Twitter.

To date, a consensus has not been reached so that the final declaration of the Conference can be pronounced with concrete proposals on the mechanisms to finance the losses and damages of developing countries and the fulfillment of the agreements established with a view to reducing emissions of polluting gases.

On Tuesday, when speaking at the high-level segment of COP27, Cuban Minister of Science, Technology and Environment Elba Rosa Pérez Montoya pointed out that the time to make the necessary decisions and take actions to reverse climate change is running out.

The Cuban minister called to boost climate solidarity, stop acting for individual economic interests, change unsustainable patterns of consumption, and help the most vulnerable.

She added that financial justice is required to make new and additional funds available to compensate for losses and damages and take adaptation measures.

COP27 will end on Friday, after 13 days of sessions in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
