Havana, Jan 28 (RHC) Cuban Ambassador to Suriname, Igor Azcuy, held talks with Suriname's Minister of Education, Science and Culture, Marie Levens, to whom he extended an invitation to participate in the international event Pedagogy 2023, in Havana.

A note from the Cuban Foreign Ministry said Saturday that during the meeting in Paramaribo, Ascuy also expressed the desire of Suriname to attend the meeting of Ministers of Education of the countries of the Group of 77 (G77) + China, which will take place in the context of the Congress, starting next Monday.

They also discussed the recent arrival in Havana of four young Surinamese to study medicine.

The head of state was interested in the actions undertaken by the government of the largest Caribbean Island to achieve low infant mortality rates, informed the Foreign Ministry.

In this regard, the ambassador explained that the care of pregnant women is a priority and said that these figures are the result of work with very rigorous protocols between primary health care, hospitals, and the education of the population.

He also commented that Cuba could exchange experiences of this type with Suriname, and they could organize a visit to Havana by experts from Paramaribo.

The international Pedagogy event will take place in the capital's Palacio de las Convenciones and will be attended by representatives from 51 nations and nearly 500 teachers and researchers from the country.

Under the slogan "For the unity of educators", the meeting will deal among its fundamental topics with inclusive, equitable, and quality education; the perspectives of technical and professional education, as well as preventive work from school.

The event will host the first meeting of Ministers of Education of the G77 + China, a space where the educational challenges for the countries of the South in the post-pandemic context will be analyzed, as well as the role of digital transformation, science, and innovation in teacher training.

Cuba assumed this month, for the first time, the Pro-Tempore Presidency of this forum that brings together developing countries (Source: Prensa Latina).
