Díaz-Canel mourns death of pro-Cuba activist's daughter

Havana, May 8 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel today lamented the death of the daughter of activist Carlos Lazo, promoter of the Bridges of Love project, which fights against the U.S. economic blockade of the island.

From his Twitter account, the president sent the Cuban-American a message of support in this difficult moment and expressed his own affection and that of the people who admire his work.

"Very sad news the death of Professor Carlos Lazo's daughter. We parents will never be prepared for such a blow. We send you a big embrace, feel the affection of the Cuban people in this difficult hour," Diaz-Canel wrote on the social network.

The day before Lazo announced on his Facebook profile the news of the death of his eldest daughter, Jessica Lazo, "as the result of a tragic traffic accident."

"Our daughter was an extraordinary human being. She was the joy of her parents, grandparents, siblings, family and friends. Since she was a little girl she had a great passion for social justice and helping those in need," he said about her on the social network.

He added that the young woman's passion was to help her fellow human being, which is why she was a combat medic and had recently graduated from college and was accepted into the fire department.

Carlos Lazo leads the Bridges of Love project, which advocates for normal relations between the United States and Cuba, hence the implementation of activities against the economic blockade and the entire system of coercive measures applied by Washington that affect the lives of Cubans.
