Havana, May 25 (RHC) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Thursday recalled the May Revolution in Argentina, in the context of the 213th anniversary of that event, considered the first major step towards the emergence of that nation and its independence.

After a series of events promoted by patriots such as Manuel Belgrano, Cornelio Saavedra, Juan Jose Antonio Castelli, and Antonio Luis Beruti in the Viceroyalty of Rio de la Plata, whose capital was Buenos Aires, on May 25, 1810, Viceroy Baltasar Hidalgo de Cisneros was deposed.

This event allowed the establishment of the first Creole Government in the Cabildo and the territory known as the United Provinces of Rio de la Plata was established.

As a tribute to these events and their leaders, Argentineans celebrate every year with numerous political and cultural activities that begin on the evening of May 24. (Source: Prensa Latina)
