Cuban pentathletes train in France for the Pan American Games

Havana, Sep 11 (RHC) Cuban pentathletes of both sexes are developing a training base in France with an eye on the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games as a result of solidarity and collaboration.

From the beginning of the month until September 22, the delegation is preparing in the northern town of Noyon, in the department of Oise, based on an agreement between Cuba’s National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) and the local authorities, headed by Mayor Sandrine Dauchelle.

At the end of July, INDER president Osvaldo Vento and Dauchelle promoted cooperation in the commune of the Alta Francia region, particularly for the pentathlon, as part of the project launched by CubaCoop to support the preparation of Cuban athletes ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The vice president of CubaCoop Manuel Pascual recognized Noyon's support and welcome to the visitors, and underlined the association's commitment to supporting the Caribbean country in its socioeconomic development.

The delegation of Cuban pentathletes seeks to arrive in optimal shape at the Pan American Games to be held from October 20 to November 5 in the Chilean capital, where they will battle for Olympic tickets.

In Santiago 2023, Cuba plans to compete with three men and two women, with the best chance of achieving a place for Paris 2024 in the men's sector.

Also thanks to the project that CubaCoop is executing with INDER and French cities, the island's men's and women's boxing teams arrived on Sunday in the town of Tremblay-en-France for a training base.

Figures such as two-time Olympic champions Julio César La Cruz (92 kilograms) and Arlen López (80), and three-time world champion Lázaro Álvarez (63.5) will train in that territory, focused on the goal of shining in the nearby Pan American Games. (Source: PL)
