Cuba promotes use of renewable energy in the tobacco sector

Havana, Jan 6 (RHC) The Tabacuba Business Group today promotes the use of renewable energy sources in several of its facilities in Pinar del Río, the largest leaf-producing province in Cuba.

Marino Murillo, president of the business group, explained that all tobacco export factories must have equipment of this type in the first half of the current year. Artemisa, Villa Clara and the westernmost territory already have this type of equipment to increase productivity.

According to the official, pre-industrial processes and irrigation to save energy carriers with submersible pumps are the priority.

He also stated that they are committed to renewable energy sources so that production processes do not stop in the event of a certain interruption of the electrical service. The most recent experience is in the chosen V-13-26 of the municipality of San Luis, where the installation of photovoltaic lamps on the outside of the building stands out.

Incorporating photovoltaic panels in picking and harvesting provides greater autonomy and allows better use of the working day in the western territory. (Source: PL)
