Havana, March 28 (RHC) -- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel said the country demands a more comprehensive training of university students and professors.

During the balance of the Ministry of Higher Education (MES), held the day before at the Palace of the Revolution, the head of state acknowledged that the policy of maximum pressure applied by the U.S. government to overthrow the Revolution impacts on the institutions subordinated to the portfolio.

Faced with this scenario, he stressed the importance of professional skills and ideological principles that should identify a university graduate on the island in the current context.

Díaz-Canel specified that the main challenge of the MES is "the process of training integral, competent professionals, committed to the Revolution, with innovative spirit and political-ideological firmness".

He pointed out that "the professional, in order to contribute to the development of the country, through a committed participation, must be a revolutionary, and must also be prepared to face pedagogical processes and management tasks", the Presidency of the Republic reported on its website.

He urged to continue developing international cooperation and the export of services, in line with new business models.

The president called for boosting the knowledge economy "so that science becomes a productive force in the country, as has been achieved by the BioCubaFarma business group".
