Havana, December 4 (RHC) -- Basile Ikuouébé, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Congo, expressed his government's intentions to develop stronger ties with Cuba.

During the cancellation of a commemorative stamp for the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Ikuouébé explained that he is very proud of the fact that thousands of young Congolese students have graduated in Cuba, most of them in health and agricultural careers.

He also praised and thanked the work of Cuban doctors stationed in his country and other places in Africa, where the Ebola virus has spread.

For his part, Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Rogelio Sierra pointed to the traditional support given by Cuba to African liberation.

The Republic of Congo and Cuba established diplomatic relations on May 10, 1964.
