Algiers, May 4 (RHC) –- Upon his arrival in the Algerian capital, the Cuban leader laid a wreath at the plaque that pays tribute to the nearly two million Algerians that were killed in the fight against French colonialism.

According to the Algerian presidency, this is Raul's third visit to that African nation, after he visited in February and July 2009, and it takes place at the invitation of Algerian President Abdelaziz Buteflika.

The two presidents are expected to address the current international situation, bilateral relations, the developments in Africa as well as the crisis in the Arab world, among other issues.

Raul's visit to Algiers will favor ways and means to further consolidate bilateral cooperation and exchange between Cuba and Algeria, two nations that have shared strong bonds of solidarity and friendship for over five decades.

The Cuban head of state is being accompanied by government Vice President Ricardo Cabrisas; Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez; Armed Forces Minister Army General Leopoldo Cintras and Cuba's Ambassador to Algiers, Raul Barzaga.
