In pursuit of transforming the concepts of social assistance through precise attention to the causes of vulnerability, Cuba is working to provide greater care for the elderly.

Prevention and social care is a priority for the government and parliament, hence the periodic analysis and the decision to undertake corrections when the approved strategy is not implemented in the communities as expected.

Today, when numerous material shortages persist due to the U.S. blockade, pandemic lags and internal inadequacies and errors, it is more important that all the living forces of the community attend to the vulnerable, which may include the elderly.

As experts, congressmen and social workers have explained, the allocation of a stipend, either through social benefits or retirement earned during their lifetime by those who reach the age of rest, does not address all their scenarios.

For that reason, there has been talk in the Cuban parliament of creating conditions to raise the benefits of the so-called grandparents' homes, as platforms to expand the possibilities of recreation for those who have given so much to the country during their working life.
