Havana, June 10 (RHC)-- Cuban composer and performer Silvio Rodríguez was proclaimed Distinguished Guest of Mexico City on Friday and was given the key to the capital.

The recognition was made in the Zócalo, in front of the National Palace, where tonight he will give a free concert to close the IX Conference of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (Cclacso), which brought together 10,000 academics from the continent in four days of work.

Upon handing him the key to the city and naming him Distinguished Guest, the head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum said that Silvio's music is part of the lives of millions of people, and that Mexico City is ready to host the concert, and expects a full Zócalo.

"Thank you Silvio for being here, although in reality you are always here, in our lives, in our certainties, in our convictions, in our loves, in our dreams and in our realizations always, in the struggle for a present and a happy, supportive and transforming future," he said.

He also ratified that being with everyone is the privilege that artists of his stature build for themselves.

"The privilege of accompanying millions at the same time, you have done it for decades in this city," the governor added.
