Lima, July 31 (RHC) – The Cuban delegation in the Lima 2019 Pan-Am Games won, this Tuesday, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals and went down from 5th to 7th place in the standings with 5 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze medals.

Cuban Pentathlon closed its best performance in the history of the sport with yet another silver medal, this time in the Mixed Doubles competition on behalf of Leidy Laura Moya and Jose Ricardo Figueroa.

Luis Manuel Lauret, in the last day of Weight Lifting, gave Cuba its second silver medal of the day in the category of +109kg; while Yesenia Ferrera´s return to Gymnastics also brought a silver, on the vaulting-horse. Bronze medals came via women´s handball, sport in which Cuba was totally superior to the American team, canoe athlete Mayvihanet Borges, and Damian Arce, only Cuban boxer who could not reach the Finals.

Nine boxers battled their way through the Finals, to be one step closer of fulfilling the team´s goal of acquiring at least 7 titles in Lima, which could make Cuba climb some steps in the Pan-Am standings when it comes to gold medals won.

Men´s Softball advanced one round further in the competition by defeating Venezuela 3-0, while men´s hockey enjoyed a victorious debut in a closed game against Trinidad and Tobago 3-2.

In women´s Beach Volley, the Cuban duo finished 4th while Tennis athletes finished their performance in an unceremonious fashion without winning a single match.
