Lima, August 6 (RHC) – Monday, August 5th was a good day for Cubans at the Basque Pelota Courts in Lima as in the Women´s Doubles Frontenis, Cubans Yasmary Medina and Leyanis Castillo crushed Peruvians Nathaly Paredes and Mia Rodriguez in two games (15-3 and 15-11). In the Individual Peruvian Fronton, Wendy Duran defeated Venezuelan Diana Rangel also in two games, but her teammate Alejandro Gonzalez could not be superior to American Salvador Espinoza and ended up losing the match, also in two games. In the Men’s Doubles, Cuba´s Fronton Leather Ball duo defeated Peru and the women, in the Fronton Rubber Ball defeated Argentina 2-1.  Alejandro Gonzalez avenged his earlier loss by beating Salvadorian Efrain Segura in two games.

In Fencing, Yunior Reitor reached the Men´s Épée Semi-Finals but was eliminated by Venezuelan Ruben Limardo. Reitor´s teammates were defeated in earlier rounds as Daylen Moreno could not make it past the Women´s Foil Round of 16, also in the Round of 16, in the Men´s Épée, Reynier Henrique was defeated by Canadian Marc-Antoine Blais.

Cuban Men´s Handball team finished 5th after winning their match against United States 32-24, while Americans eliminated Cuba in the Men´s Field Hockey Quarter Finals 5-1.

In Racquetball, Cuba´s aspirations to fight for a medal were kept alive as Men´s Doubles team of Maykel Moyet and Enier Chacon defeated Argentinians Shalom Manzuri and Fernando Kurzbard in a long 3-game match (15-10, 11-15, 11-4) and advanced to the sport´s Quarter-Finals.  Unfortunately, the Women´s Doubles did not have the same result, as they were defeated by Colombia in two games.

A Bronze medal was given to the island´s delegation by the Rhythmic Gymnastics team, as they finished 3rd in the Group-3 Hoops, 2 Pairs of Clubs Finals, behind Brazil and Mexico. It should be pointed out that some athletes have filed complaints, including Cubans, because the judges have allegedly favored the Brazilians during the whole Rhythmic Gymnastics schedule.

In the Table Tennis Men´s Singles Round of 16, Jorge Campos was defeated by Dominican Jiaji Wu (2-4) and Andy Pereira was victim of Canadian Eugene Wang (3-4). In the Women´s Round of 16, Daniela Fonseca succumbed before Brazilian Jessica Yamada (2-4) and Idalys Lovet was the only one to keep Cuba in the competition as she advanced to Quarter-Finals by defeating Guatemalan Mabelyn Henriquez (4-3).

Women´s Water Polo debut for Cuba came along with a victory over Mexico (13-4) in the Group Stage, as the Men´s team did their homework and defeated Puerto Rico (10-8).
