Cuban Roxana Gómez broke the 51-flat barrier in the 400 meters in Chorzow, Poland

Havana, June 21 (RHC)-- Cuban Roxana Gómez broke the 51-flat barrier in the 400 meters in Chorzow, Poland, and took her personal best to 50.76 seconds at the Kusocinski Memorial, in Poland, where she was second behind Namibia's Beatrice Masilingi (49.88).

The success of Roxana, 22 years old, was in the same track where in May she was crowned world champion with the 4x400 relay.

The Cienfuegos native smashed the best time of her life (51.13), achieved last April in Havana.  With her record, she climbed to 19th place in the season's ranking and became the fourth Cuban of all time in the oval lap, only preceded by the phenomenal Ana Fidelia Quiros (49.61), Aurelia Yeya Penton (50.56) and Julia Duporty (50.61).

The student of professors Ricardo Molina and Juan Gualberto Valdes, already qualified for Tokyo, will run another 2 or 3 races in Europe before the Olympic Games.

"Roxana has improved a lot in strengthening and also in the technical work of the race. I think she can continue to improve this season," coach Ricardo Molina told JIT.   He said that his student aspires to reach the Olympic final, something complicated, but not impossible.
