Six Cubans to the 30 Meter Fronton World Cup

Havana, August 31 (RHC/JIT)-- Cuba plans to attend with six pelotaris to the VII World Cup of Fronton 30 Meters, the first event convened by the International Federation of Basque Pelota (FIPV) after the beginning of the pandemic of COVID-19.

The competition will be held at the Nazareth Sports Center, in the Spanish city of Valencia, between September 12 and 18.

As it is traditional, the Cup will grant quotas for the next absolute world championship of the sport, scheduled for the year 2022 in France, in the modalities of individual rubber paddle (male and female) and frontenis in pairs (male and female).   It is also expected to award tickets to the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023, according to a press release issued by the national commission.

The proposal consists of granting up to five tickets in the men's individual rubber paddle and in both sexes of frontenis by pairs, which will be decided in the technical meeting prior to the competition in Valencia.

The Cuban delegation is made up of the girls Yasmary Medina and Daniela Darriba, for both modalities, together with Leyanis Castillo, who will only play in frontenis.

In the men's sector are Alejandro González Ceballos and Jhoan Luis Torreblaca Fabré, destined to double events, as well as Fernando Gómez García, in frontennis.

All these athletes took part in the absolute world championship in Barcelona 2018 and some of them also lived the experiences of the Pan American Games in Lima and the world competition for under 22 years old in 2019.

Fulfilling a stage of preparation in the conditions allowed by the covid-19, our athletes will try to achieve the classifications in dispute.

Valencia will see the return to high competition of the versatile Torreblanca, who was injured in 2019 and could not attend the Pan American Games.

Alejandro Placer and Camilo Valdés will be the coaches of the group, directed by Lázaro Mendoza Simón, national commissioner.
