Yulimar Rojas and Mijaín López tally more votes in Prensa Latina survey

Havana, November 16 (PL)-- Olympic giants Yulimar Rojas, from Venezuela, and Mijaín López, from Cuba, added votes for best athletes in Latin America and the Caribbean in the 57th edition of the Prensa Latina Sports Poll.

Both world stars added to their dominance in the survey the vote of the international radio station Radio Habana Cuba, which in the team section selected the Argentine men's soccer team.

The record holder and champion under the five hoops in Tokyo 2020, the triple jumper Rojas, has so far all the preferences in the poll by adding 12 ballots and is on her way to obtain her second scroll for best female athlete in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The four-time Olympic champion, Cuba's López, received six votes from Radio Habana Cuba and is ahead of his compatriots Andy Cruz (boxing, two votes) and Julio César La Cruz (boxing, one vote), as well as Argentina's Lionel Messi (soccer, one vote) in the category of most outstanding male athlete of 2021.

In the team section, the broadcaster chose the Albiceleste men's soccer team, owner of four votes in the poll, backed by the gold medal at the Copa América in Brazil 2021.

The Argentine team beats Brazil's women's volleyball team, Olympic silver medalist in the Japanese Games and in the Nations League, which accumulated two votes.

After the suspension in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Prensa Latina resumed its annual survey in this campaign, whose voting period will expire on December 17, while the winners will be announced on the 20th of that same month at a press conference.

Votes from the different media -radio, television, written and digital press- can be sent (never personally) to the following e-mail address: deportes@prensa-latina.cu.
