Havana, December 14 (PL) - Venezuelan triple jumper Yulimar Rojas continued to sweep the Prensa Latina poll that chooses the best athletes of the year in Latin America by receiving three votes from Cuban media.

The Granma newspaper and Radio Victoria and COCO radio stations favored the South American world record holder, who received 21 votes to easily dominate the section of Best Female Athlete of 2023 by receiving the benefit of almost 60 percent of the voters.

Cuban canoeist Yarisley Cirilo, world champion in the 200-meter single canoe, obtained the privilege of the Matanzas newspaper Girón and is in second place with four votes, closely followed by Dominican Marileidy Paulino (3), world champion in the round oval.

The four news media took the side of the wrestler from the largest of the Antilles and world champion in Belgrade Luis Orta, who accumulates 19 ballots to settle -also without discussion- at the top of the Best Male Athlete of 2023.

In the category of Best Team, the Brazilian soccer club Fluminense, the recent champion of the Copa Libertadores, added another three votes and comfortably tops the list with 20 points, ahead of the six received by the Argentine national team in the same sport.

The 59th edition of this poll will be open until December 21 and all the world's media can send their selections to the agency's e-mail address (deportes@prensa-latina.cu), from where the general voting will be compiled.
