Santiago de Chile, December 1 (PL) - Venezuela's triple jumper Yulimar Rojas received today the vote of the Chilean newspaper El Siglo, in the category of Best Female Athlete in the Prensa Latina 2022 sports poll.

Yulimar, 27, was crowned Olympic champion in the triple jump in 2021 and became the first Venezuelan woman to reach the top of the podium in this type of competition.

She also has among her honors the 2017, 2019 and 2022 world championships and indoors she took the gold medal in 2016, 2018 and 2022.

Two years ago she was elected best female athlete by World Athletics, a distinction for which she also competes in 2022.

For the first place as Best Male Athlete, the newspaper El Siglo chose Dominican Republic pitcher Framber Valdez, champion with the Houston Astros in the U.S. Major Leagues.

Valdez was a key figure in the Astros' victory in the 2022 World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Chilean newspaper voted the best team in Latin America and the Caribbean in favor of Argentina's basketball team, winner of the FIBA Americas Cup.
