Salas and Torreblanca fall in their first outings at the World Wrestling Championship

Havana, September 15 (RHC)-- The two Cubans who competed this Thursday in the World Wrestling Championship held in Belgrade, Serbia, were eliminated in closed bouts in their first appearances.

The experienced world medalist and Olympic bronze medalist in Tokyo-2020, Reinieris Salas, now in the 125 kilograms, fell in his debut 4-2 against Canadian Amarveer Dhesi, while Yurieski Torreblana, Pan American champion in Lima-2019 in the 86 kg, was beaten 3-1 against Kazakh Azamat Dauletbekov.

Cuba has other bookmakers in the world championship, Alejandro Valdes (65 kg), Franklin Maren (74 kg), and Reineris Andreu (57 kg).

The Cubans were not able to reach the podium with either the women's or the men's Greco-Roman category.

Among the Greco-Roman athletes, the best performance was registered by Luis Orta (63 kg), Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion, who lost 1-3 in the round of the best eight against Taleh Mammadov, from Azerbaijan.

Something similar happened with Laura Herin (53 kg), who added two wins by ST, but in the quarterfinals lost 5-7 in a close duel with Greece's Maria Prevolaraki.
