Havana, March 4 (RHC)-- Tomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), presented on Friday the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, with the Gold Medal of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), in recognition of his support for the world Olympic movement.

The Presidency reported on Twitter about the meeting held between Díaz-Canel and Bach, who is on a working visit to the island in the company of other top world sports executives.

"President @DiazCanelB received Tomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, who is making a working visit to #Cuba in the company of top world sports executives," it said.

Díaz-Canel considered it an honor to receive the IOC president, and reiterated Cuba's commitment to the international Olympic movement; sport can build many bridges, said the Cuban head of state.

In the exchange Bach described his stay in Cuban territory as intense, but perfect, and thanked for the hospitality received.
On Thursday, the president of the international entity exchanged with Cuban athletes and executives, and intervened in an extraordinary meeting of the Cuban Olympic Committee's executive.
