Cuba mourns death of baseball player Yoandry Garlobo

Havana, July 16 (ACN)-- Cuba mourns the death today, at the age of 46, of Matanzas baseball player Yoandry Garlobo, remembered for his excellent performance in the first Mial Baseball Classic (2006), and in the National Series of that sport.

Through Twitter, the Cuban Baseball Federation conveyed condolences to the athlete's family and friends, and highlighted his results with the teams of Cuba and his province.

Osvaldo Vento, president of the National Institute of Physical Education and Recreation (Inder), on the same social network expressed his sorrow for the death of the stellar baseball player.

Garlobo's hometown in the municipality of Jovellanos is expected to bid him a final farewell in the coming hours, the provincial government of Matanzas said in a note that also mourned the loss.

Yoandry Garlobo Romay, after not starting in the first game against Panama, in the first Classic, assumed as an extra-inning starter the responsibility of putting the Cuban team ahead on the scoreboard and did not disappoint; from then on he signed a memorable performance that catapulted him to the best team of the tournament.
