Havana, November 21 (JIT)-- The Sancti Spíritus Gallos avoided a sweep on Monday by beating the leader Industriales 10X2, a result that left them alone in second place in the II Elite League of Cuban Baseball.

The espirituanos broke a four-game losing streak, three of those against the Leones, guided by the work of pitchers José Isaías Grandales (6.0 IP, 3H, 6K, 2BB) and Yanielquis Duardo (3.0 IP, 2CL, 4H, 3K), winner and stopper of the game, respectively. Offensively, catcher Lázaro Ponce (3-2, 2CI) was outstanding.

With this success, the Gallos moved to a game and a half behind the Azules in the standings, the only team to accumulate eight victories when the championship is about to complete the first third of the regular calendar.

Artemisa moved up to third place in the standings after winning three of the four games against Santiago de Cuba, the last one 12x6 with Luis González, who scored two runs and four runs batted in.

Reliever Osdany Rodríguez (3.0 IP, 2H, 4K, 1BB) got the win with Dorvis Navarro (3.0 IP, 1CL, 4H, 2K) getting the save.

Las Avispas hit three home runs, two by young Leonardo Montero and another by Andres de la Cruz, who each drove in three runs in a losing cause.

The day concluded with Las Tunas' victory over Matanzas 2x1 to leave the pairings in a two wins apiece. Denis Peña's two-run homer in the sixth inning, against the losing Yoanni Yera, decided the score.

Controlling the Cocodrilos' bullpen were the pitchers Yadián Martínez (7.0 IP, 1CL, 4H, 3K, 1BB) and the matador Alberto Pablo Civil, who walked the last two innings with three strikeouts.

This Monday concluded the third sub-series of the League, which left Industriales in the lead with a balance of 8-4 followed by Sancti Spíritus (6-5), Artemisa (6-6), Matanzas (5-6) and Las Tunas and Santiago de Cuba, both with 5-7.

Today will be a travel day and on Wednesday the duels between MTZ-ART, IND-LTU and SCU-SSP will begin.
