In an interview with a local radio station, Santos said government efforts are being directed to destroy the gangs of drug traffickers.
At least 1,200 people have been victims of forced displacement as result of the criminal gangs' expanding operations in the area. And some 187 people, including 12 community leaders, were killed in violent incidents in Buenaventura last year.
Colombian President Calls to Reinforce Security in Buenaventura
Bogota, March 7 (RHC) -- Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has ordered an investigation into the southern department of Valle del Cauca in a place called Buenaventura to normalize the situation there, currently dominated by clashes between criminal gangs.
