The Puebla Group (el Grupo de Puebla) affirmed that the victory of Gabriel Boric as president-elect of Chile is also a triumph of the people of that country and of Latin American progressivism.

Buenos Aires, December 20 (RHC)-- The Puebla Group (el Grupo de Puebla) affirmed that the victory of Gabriel Boric as president-elect of Chile is also a triumph of the people of that country and of Latin American progressivism.

In a communiqué, the alliance made up of several personalities -- among them two incumbent presidents (Alberto Fernandez, from Argentina, and Luis Arce, from Bolivia) -- stresses that the arrival of the new president to La Moneda Palace confirms the progressive trend in the region.  This is expressed in the need for a new model of economic development, more supportive and democratic, it adds.

Likewise, the Group highlights that this progressive trend also has to do with the strengthening of the State in areas related to social goods and services such as health, education and food.  In the unpostponable demand to restart regional integration mechanisms to face Covid-19, it adds.

For the alliance, Boric's victory opens new political spaces for progressive forces to make a statement in the elections in Brazil and Colombia next year.   "With the economic reactivation, the reconstruction of the social fabric and the return to full democracy through the Constitutional Convention, a future of union for Chile opens the way and buries part of its ungrateful past", the Grupo de Puebla points out.
