Kerawa, September 3 (RHC)-- At least 30 people have been killed in northern Cameroon in two successive bomb attacks. Military officials said Thursday the double bombing targeted a gathering of people in the town of Kerawa in Far North region of Cameroon.

The town is where the Cameroonian army has been battling the militants of the Boko Haram, a Takfiri group based in neighboring Nigeria. Boko Haram has launched sporadic attacks on civilians and security forces in Cameroon and several other countries in western and central Africa region.

An army officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the first attack hit Kerawa’s market while the other bomb exploded around 200 meters from a military base in the town.

Senior government officials have also confirmed the fatalities, saying initial investigations show two women have carried out the attacks. Boko Haram has been involved in similar attacks in another town of Cameroon’s Far North region, with the last one in July killing dozens of people in the city of Maroua.
