New York, April 4 (RHC)-- At the UN, Cuba has again called for the current world migration issue to be addressed from its root causes.

Permanent Representative Anayansi Rodriguez urged member states to find solutions that consider the fundamental causes of the large irregular migration flows currently going on in the world.

In an address at the UN General Assembly, Rodriguez stressed that key to those solutions lied in the elimination of poverty and inequality prevailing in developing countries.

The Cuban diplomat referred to themes that needed to be included in the so-called Global Pact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, whose final negotiation and approval are scheduled for this year. She noted that actions in the implementation of the Pact will have to be guided by the principles of respect for the sovereignty and equality of all states, as well as the dignity and well-being of migrants and their kin.
