Havana, January 10 (RHC)-- The Cuban Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union, Norma Goicochea, expressed her gratitude Thursday to the Confederal Group of the European United Left/Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL) in Brussels for their solidarity with the Caribbean island.

The diplomat said on Twitter that it was a pleasure to welcome the MEPs and assistants from the group, including EP Vice-President Dimitrios Papadimoulis.

Last November, a meeting between a delegation from the Cuban National Assembly of People's Power and Mr Papadimoulis confirmed the mutual desire to strengthen ties between the two parliaments.

The Greek politician affirmed then that the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against the island for almost six decades is unjust.

He also said that the victory in the vote on the Cuban resolution before the United Nations General Assembly belongs to the people of Cuba and to all those around the world who have accompanied the Caribbean nation in this struggle.

The GUE/NGL supports the bases and principles contained in the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement initialled between Cuba and the European Union.
