Pastors for Peace visit the ELAM

Havana, July 28 (RHC)-- Members of the 32nd Caravan of the interfaith organization Pastors for Peace visited the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) in Havana, where they spoke with students.

In the presence of the Hero of the Republic of Cuba Fernando González Llort, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), and Dr. Yoandra Muro Valle, director of the school, the U.S. solidarity activists learned of the students' gratitude for the opportunity to train as doctors to serve their communities, and of their commitment to the peoples of the world.

Gail Walker, director of IFCO/Pastors for Peace and daughter of Reverend Lucius Walker, initiator of the Pastors for Peace solidarity program, stated that they will continue to identify young people from her country interested in studying in Cuba, and announced the creation of an international brigade that will gather material support from all over the world to support the maintenance of this type of educational center.

The U.S. activist herself stressed how the economic, commercial and financial blockade of her government also limits the best development of such noble and humanitarian projects as this one.

The current edition of the Pastors for Peace caravans arrived in Cuba last week to participate in the celebrations for the National Rebellion Day, whose main event took place in the province of Cienfuegos on July 26.

On Monday, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel presented the Order of Solidarity to the Caravan of Pastors for Peace and awarded the Medal of Friendship to Gail Walker.

The recognition took place in Cienfuegos, as part of a meeting with some 200 friends of solidarity groups, who are visiting the island in the context of the national anniversary.
