Havana, Nov 1 (RHC) The close cooperation ties between Cuba and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in the health sector were strengthened with the renewal of an agreement on the subject that exists between the two countries, which will allow maintaining and increasing collaboration in health care and education.

 

The documents were signed, by the Minister of Public Health, Dr. José Ángel Portal Miranda, and the president of the Empresa Comercializadora de Servicios Médicos, Dr. Yamila de Armas Águila; while Dr. Odete María Freitas Belo, head of Health of Timor-Leste, was present for Timor-Leste.

 

The Cuban minister conveyed the willingness of the government of the island to expand collaboration and support to the Timorese health system.

 

An Academic Services Agreement was also signed, which will allow the training in Cuba of professionals from the Southeast Asian nation in different medical specialties.

 

Portal Miranda affirmed that the most important thing is the training of human resources to increase the services and achieve the purposes required by the small country, for which Cuba can contribute with its experiences in the Primary Health Care model and innovative products of Cuban biotechnology.

 

In this regard, Freitas Belo ratified the ties of friendship that unite both States and thanked the work of the Cuban medical brigade, which has contributed to improving health indicators since its arrival, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

"Until 2020 we managed to train a little more than a thousand doctors thanks to Cuba's assistance", said the minister, and expressed the intention to develop Medicine and the improvement of the professionals of her country with the support of the Island. (Source: granma. cu)
