China supports Cuban sovereignty and rejects external interference

Havana, Aug 24 (RHC) China this Thursday underlined its support for Cuba's sovereignty and socio-economic development, while rejecting external interference and the blockade on the island.

China’s foreign ministry spokesman highlighted his country's willingness to further deepen political trust, expand practical cooperation and intensify strategic coordination, in order to promote further development of the special friendship between the two countries.

The Foreign Ministry highlighted the dialogue between the presidents of China, Xi Jinping, and Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, in the context of the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.

In that exchange, Xi described Díaz-Canel's state visit to the Asian giant last November as successful, during which both reached consensus on the deepening of bilateral relations and agreed to work together to build a China-Cuba community with a future shared.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry thanked the island for its support on issues affecting China's core interests, as well as its support for the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by Xi.

In addition, spokesman Wang Wenbin appreciated Cuba's work as president of the G77 plus China, said that the Asian giant attached great importance to the group's summit next September, and expressed its willingness to continue working with the Caribbean side to guarantee its realization.

The foreign ministry shared Xi's words to Díaz-Canel on the importance of the Group of 77 plus China as a platform for cooperation among developing countries, noting that the island had made positive contributions to enhance solidarity among its members.

During the dialogue between the two presidents, Díaz-Canel highlighted the role of Beijing in the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and conveyed the admiration of the Cuban people for Xi and China. (Source: PL)
