Havana, October 27 (RHC) -- Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero has stressed the importance of promoting territorial development in the country through municipal strategies that take advantage of local resources.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the V International Congress on Marketing, Local Development and Tourism (Mardeltur 2023), the head of government stressed the need to unite efforts, wills and resources in order to create a network of actors with the capacity to transform.
The head of state emphasized that local development in the largest Antillean Island has become a public policy of strategic importance as a complement to the National Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030, according to the Cuban News Agency (Agencia Cubana de Noticias).
He added that, to promote this area, there is a working group, and the role of the local bodies of the People's Power is essential, where the municipality is the protagonist in the functioning of the nation.
It is not possible to talk about local development, he said, without making visible the work carried out by those responsible from the administrative point of view, who are in charge of the strict compliance with public policies, programs and projects in order to solve the needs of society.
The Prime Minister informed that they are working on a process of updating the economic model, which integrates a territorial approach.
He indicated that there are several factors that limit the strengthening of local capacities, such as the limited municipal autonomy, the concentration of competences and the waste of endogenous resources.
The V International Congress on Marketing, Local Development and Tourism closed its doors on Thursday, after three days of debates aimed at visualizing good practices in local development on a national and global scale.
The forum was a propitious space to discuss the challenges of the new economic actors, their link with local governments and the business opportunities for micro, small and medium-sized technology-based enterprises and in agri-food sectors. (Source: Prensa Latina).
