Moscow, May 7 (RHC)-- First Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, received the commemorative medal for the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory awarded by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Russia. The medal was placed on his chest by the president of the Russian political organization, Gennady Zyuganov.
This moment occurred after a dialogue between the two Communist leaders, held this Wednesday morning in Moscow, where both organizations adopted a Roadmap with actions to implement the agreements reached last year.
At the meeting, both Communist leaders praised the historical ties between both nations and political organizations.
The Cuban head of state highlighted the international support for the celebration of the eight decades of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany. "At a time when there are attempts to obscure the achievements of the Red Army, it is time to work to preserve historical memory," he emphasized.
The Cuban people recognize the imprint of this date, a war that was of great importance to national liberation, as a demonstration of the heroism of the Soviet and Russian people, the Cuban leader commented.
In this regard, he recalled the words of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, who asserted that while the Soviets were fighting in Leningrad, they were doing so for humanity and also for Cuba.
"Once again, we want to highlight the support of the Russian Communist Party authorities and President Vladimir Putin for the advancement of cooperation between our countries," Díaz-Canel stated.
The Cuban president also recognized the support of the Communists of the Eurasian giant in the fight against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for more than six decades.
"We are in a historic position in our political relations," emphasized the first secretary of the CC-PCC.
For his part, the Russian Communist leader specified that growing militarism and the struggle for capital are merely a sign of the rise of fascism, which has claimed the lives of millions of our brothers and sisters around the world.
"Many countries today do not remember the importance of the Soviet victory due to the number of people who lost their lives," emphasized Zyuganov.
He also thanked the Cuban president for the delegation that participated in the recent International Anti-Fascist Forum, where Cuba participated in a declaration against Nazism and fascism.
At the close of the meeting, a roadmap was signed with concrete actions to implement the exchange agreement signed last year between the two parties.
Following the exchange, Díaz-Canel and the accompanying delegation will preside over the ceremony marking the 65th anniversary of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Russia.
