Xi Jinping congratulates Miguel Diaz-Canel and sends greetings message to Raul Castro

Beijing, Oct 11 (RHC)-- Chinese President Xi Jinping commended Miguel Diaz-Canel on his election as president of Cuba, stressed the friendship between the two peoples, and reaffirmed willingness to work together to strengthen bilateral ties.

In his message, the dignitary assured that the two countries are good friends, partners, and brothers, that have managed to forge a solid fraternity for more than half a century, and share sincere trust and the same destiny.

Xi Jinping confirmed his willingness to expand bilateral cooperation with Diaz-Canel and further promote the stability of ties between the two socialist states.

The Chinese president also communicated with the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Raúl Castro, and conveyed his greetings for the success of the 4th Extraordinary Session of the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament), held this Thursday to elect leaders of the country.

Díaz-Canel was elected this Thursday as president of the Republic of Cuba by an absolute majority in a free, direct and secret vote during the parliamentary session.

The legislative body also approved Salvador Valdes for the position of vice president of the Caribbean nation, and both leaders received a mandate until 2023 when the current legislature of the Cuban Parliament ends.
