Turkish President Begins Official Visit to Cuba

Havana, February 10 (RHC),-- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan begins an official visit to Cuba Tuesday, during which he will meet with Cuban President Raúl Castro and will develop other activities.

A graduate in economics and management, Erdogan served as mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality from 1994 to 1998.

He founded the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in 2001, leading it to three general election victories in 2002, 2007 and 2011, before stepping down as party leader upon his election as President in August 2014 with 52 percent of the vote.

Cuba and Turkey have maintained consistently cordial, uninterrupted diplomatic relations for the past 62 years, since they were officially established on November 25th, 1952.

The Turkish president's talks with his Cuban counterpart and with other Cuban authorities will reportedly focus on regional and international developments, bilateral relations and the signing of bilateral cooperation agreements in different fields.
