A concert by the popular Cuban band Los Van Van was the main attraction Wednesday at the 5th International Salsa Festival, which runs here in Havana until Sunday, March 1st.

Founded in 1969 by bassist Juan Formell, who directed the band until his death in 2014, Los Van Van is the leading popular musical group of Cuba. It has a Grammy Award to its credit, which it won in 2000 with the album 'Llegó Van Van'.

Organized by Cuban cultural institutions, the 5th Salsa festival brings together 19 Cuban and foreign ensembles. Activities include electronic music sessions and DJ presentations at the Club 500 of the José Antonio Echeverría recreational complex, the event’s main venue.

Other highlights include also performances by Cuba’s Alain Pérez, Adalberto Álvarez y su Son, and Havana D' Primera, and Puerto Rico’s Víctor Manuelle, whose performance on Sunday will mark the event’s closure. It will be Víctor Manuelle’s first performance in Cuba.
