A recently released tune entitled ‘Raise the Flags’ -or in Spanish ‘Izar banderas’- is a tribute to Cuban health personnel fighting, day and night, the Covid-19 pandemic on the island and around the world.

Cuban pianist, percussionist and composer Emilio Vega is the author of the new song, which mixes ballad and bolero.

Under the label of Cuba’s recording and musical editions company (Egrem), the song features renowned Cuban musicians Eduardo Sosa, Niurka Reyes, David Álvarez, Luna Manzanares, Kiki Corona and Annie Garcés, singing together.

Emilio Vega, also a multi-award winning musical producer said the song has become an anthem of struggle and resistance, as well as an expression of the profound gratitude of millions on the island and abroad for the work being developed by Cuban-trained health professionals, who are right now on the frontlines in different parts of the world, fighting this pandemic, thus risking their own lives to save the lives of others.
