Omara Portuondo & Orquesta Failde

Havana, June 29 (RHC)-- Cuba’s record and musical editions Company EGREM has just released the single ‘Guajira Guantanamera’, by Omara Portuondo –Diva of Buena Vista Social Club-- and Orquesta Failde.

The single is a new version of the iconic tune written by renowned composer Joseíto Fernández Díaz, arranged by Roldany Hernández.

It is included in the album "Omara 90", with footage of the concert given by Omara and Orquesta Failde at Teatro Sausto, in Matanzas province.

Without audience, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the concert marked Omara’s 90th birthday –celebrated on October 29th, 2020.

In "Omara 90" Orquesta Failde accompanies Omara as she revisits tunes from her vast repertoire.

Guests artists include Teatro de Las Estaciones theatre group, and via online singers Gaby Moreno from Guatemala and Peruvian Eva Ayllón.

An award-winning artist, Omara Portuondo was just presented with the Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts, granted by the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sports, in a ceremony on June 23rd past at Palacio de El Pardo in Madrid, presided over by the Spanish King and Queen.

Instituted in 1971, the high distinction is awarded to individuals or institutions that excel in artistic or cultural creation or to those that have provided valuable services to the promotion of the arts and culture or to conservation of artistic heritage.
