Yarisleidis Cirilo and Katherine Nuevo in Tokyo 2020

Havana, May 26 (RHC) - The pair of Yarisleidys Cirilo and Katherine Nuevo continues to shine in the canoeing elite. After an outstanding performance at the World Cup in the Czech Republic last week, they have just qualified to the final of the C-2 500m at the Poznan Cup, Poland, by dominating their qualifying heat with 2.00.41 minutes.

The Cubans, world runners-up and Olympic finalists, clearly outpaced the pairs from Canada and Germany to advance directly to the medal contention on Saturday.

Cirilo, 20, won two gold medals and one silver last week in Racice, Czech Republic, to lead a great Cuban performance with five medals (2-2-1).

Meanwhile, the duo of Jose Ramon Pelier and Tabiani Dieguez was third in their semifinal heat on Thursday and was also included in Saturday's A final.

They clocked 1.43.79 minutes, in a close battle with the boats of Poland and France, occupants of the first two positions.
