Ana Fidelia Quiros

Rome, June 4 (PL) - The stellar Cuban runner Ana Fidelia Quiros, an emblematic figure of world athletics, began a tour of nine cities in Italy on Saturday where she will make presentations on her sports career and her life, said a social leader.

Marco Papacci, president of the National Association of Italy-Cuba Friendship (Anaic), emphasized in declarations to Prensa Latina the importance of the presence in this European nation of Ana Fidelia, multi-champion between 1983 and 1997, who will speak about the achievements of the sport in her country.

Papacci pointed out that the tour of Italy of the outstanding sprinter, organized by Anaic, will begin this Saturday with an event that will take place at 17:30 local time at the Vittorio Tommasi Circle in the city of Venice.

The president of Anaic said that Ana Fidelia Quirós is an example of the achievements of sports in her nation, despite the affectations suffered by Cuba as a result of the criminal economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States against that country. The tour of the Cuban athlete, champion in multiple international events in 400 and 800 meters, will include a presentation in this capital, which will take place on June 10 at 5:00 p.m. local time at the headquarters of the National Association of the Roman Press.

Also known for her successes as the Caribbean Storm, winner of the Grand Prix of Athletics from 1987 to 1991 and two world titles in 1995 and 1997, she will also visit the city of Novara on June 5, as well as the cities of Imperia and Pisa on June 6 and 12.

The sport glory of the Caribbean island, to whom the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro awarded the Medal of Dignity of his country for his sporting and human merits, will be presented on June 14 in Cosenza, capital of the province of the same name, in the Calabria region.

He will then travel on June 16 to Palermo, capital of Sicily, and will conclude his visit on the island of Sardinia, with various activities in the cities of Nuoro and Cagliari, the source said.
