Havana, March 21 (ACN) - Cuba secured four silver medals in the penultimate day of competition of the Independence Boxing Cup, by winning four of its six fighters in the semifinals, held at the amphitheater of the Technological University of Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic.

The Cubans who won were Rogelandy Delís, in the 63.5 kilograms (kg), Jorge Daniel Focade (71 kg), Manuel Soto (80 kg) and Nelson Williams (92 kg), who will discuss this Friday the titles of their respective divisions.

Delis had a bad start to the point that he went down in the first round, but recovered to defeat Julian Ortiz from Puerto Rico with a tight 3-2 decision, while Focade had a good closing of the bout, when the referee decreed the RSC in his favor.

Soto and Williams deserved RSC victories in the second and first rounds over hosts Johnny Hurtado and Daniel Guzman, in that order.

On Friday night Delis, Focade, Soto and Williams will fight for the gold medals with Dominicans Alexis de la Cruz, Johnny Fernandez, Noel Pacheco and Daniel Guzman, respectively.

The Cubans who lost on Wednesday were Giovis Salfrán (51 kg) and Osvaldo Díaz (57 kg).

Salfrán and Díaz lost 4-1 and 5-0 to locals Mario Levegar and Rodrigo Marte, in that order.
