Yamel Luis Vives

Havana, Jun 17 (JIT) - Gold medals awarded with personal bests were achieved today by Cubans Yamel Luis Vives, York Lázaro Suárez, and Ever René Castro during the second day of the Parathletics Grand Prix of Tunis 2025.

For Yamel, the joy came after registering 23.16 seconds in the 200 meters category T44 and joined the one obtained this Monday -equal to his lifetime best- in the hectometer (11.10 seconds).

The silver medalist of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games arrived in the Tunisian capital with a career-best 24.12 seconds, but in the midst of his excellent form he lowered almost a full second and confirmed that he is one of the serious candidates to reign in the world competition at the end of September in New Delhi.

In the same order as in the 100 meters, the silver medal was won by the Russian who competes as a neutral athlete, Dzmitry Bartashevich, with 24.03 seconds, while the bronze medal was won by Ruihua Huang (24.49).

York's victory in the 200 meters in the T13 category with a time of 22.00 seconds can be taken as revenge for what happened on Monday.

Ever Rene offered another good demonstration of progress when he took his javelin to 38.54 meters (category F41), which remained as a record for America. The excellent shot came in the sixth and last attempt, but even with the 37.07 meters scored in the fourth, it would have been enough to win the meeting.
